Meet the Working Group

Saskia Brechenmacher

Saskia Brechenmacher is an Associate Fellow in Carnegie’s Democracy, Conflict, and Governance Program, where her research focuses on gender, democracy, and political violence, as well as trends in civic activism and civil society repression. Prior to joining Carnegie, she worked at the World Peace Foundation in Boston, the Institute for Human Security at Tufts University, and Carnegie Europe in Brussels. Brechenmacher is a graduate of Carnegie’s James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program, a Humanity in Action Senior Fellow, and an alumna of the Atlantik Brücke Young Leaders Program. Her work has appeared in The National Interest, The Pacific Standard, The Hill, Open Democracy, and other outlets. She holds a BA from Brown University and an MA from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
